Scalable, Reconfigurable, and Efficient Data Center Power Distribution Architecture
Today’s data center power distribution systems are more efficient, more adept at handling higher server densities, and easier to manage. As a result of these improvements, power distribution systems are now much more flexible and reconfigurable. The past techniques of massive transformer-based power distribution units feeding under-floor hardwired circuits via rigid or flexible conduit are now obsolete. The recent changes in power distribution technology reflect the dynamic nature of frequent server upgrades in the data center. This course reviews updated power distribution solutions including modular power distribution and overhead power busway, and compares these approaches to the legacy approach. The boundaries or scope of power distribution for purposes of this course will focus primarily within the IT room space, as opposed to the mechanical room and electrical room areas.
